Last week, the Government said it will try to manage rather than remove the pest, which has been confirmed at 40 sites in the Nelson region since June. A Nelson beekeepers' group spokesperson, Matt Davidson, says their plan involves killing many of the hives in the Nelson City-Stoke area, and wild bee colonies. He says they want to take a more aggressive approach to slow the mite's spread down the South Island.
