Per-hive costs are more expensive than ever before, between US$125 and US$180 depending on colony strength, said Joe Traynor, a bee broker and founder of Scientific Ag Company. Traynor works with 40 almond growers from Bakersfield to Modesto and about 40 beekeepers from around the country.
