BRAZIL- THE FIRST DONKY BEEKEEPR OF THE WORLD IN CEARÁ STATE

NEW ZEALAND- LEGAL DISPUTE BETWEEN COMVITA COMPANY AND WAIKAKO UNIVERSITY

USA- ADVANCE THE BEEKEEPING RULE APPROVAL
The South Portland City Council has moved toward approving an updated city ordinance on beekeeping. The council voted 4-1 in a first reading of the amendment last night. Kay Loring cast the dissenting vote. The changes include: defining the beekeeper as a resident of South Portland, decreasing the annual permit fee from $50 to $25 and adding the animal control officer as an authorized agent to inspect an apiary. A second reading, and final approval, is scheduled for May 19.

?Bees have reached a critical threshold,? said Geri Hens, a beekeeper in Niagara County. ?They?re stressed to the max.? Even the name for their dramatic decline sounds like a serious psychiatric problem ? Colony Collapse Disorder. ?We are very concerned about the loss of the bees,? said Jessica Chittenden, spokeswoman for the state Department of Agriculture and Markets. ?Without bees, none of the crops would produce food.?
