EL SALVADOR- THE IMPORTANCE OF THE STINGLESS BEES
In the country there are about 25 species of stingless bees in the wild, of which 10 have been domesticated, but the most important by the number of colonies and honey production are: jicota (Melipona beecheii), followed by chumelo or jimerito (Tetragonisca angustula), or weeping zarquita (Nannotrigona testaceicornis) and Magu alazán (Scaptotrigona pectoralis). Most people who cultivates these bees are located in the northern central region (department of Chalatenango), followed by the western region (Santa Ana) and Eastern (department of Morazan and San Miguel). The national average annual production of honey jicota is estimated at more than two liters per colony (more than three bottles)

MEXICO- MORE THAN 42,000 BEEKEEPRS EXPORTS AN AVERAGE OF 50 MILLON DOLLARS
The holder of the General Coordination of Livestock at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA), Everardo Gonzalez Padilla, noted that the apicultural activity in the country, which depends more than 42 thousand families were has become an important generator of foreign exchange. ARGENTINA- LOWER HONEY PRODUCTION IN FORMOSA PROVINCE
The Apicultural Program Coordinator of the the Ministry of Production, Horacio Lessa, reported that honey production for 2008 would reach 250 tonnes, arising from 19 thousand beehives officially registered. There was a decline in production due to climatic changes that affected the work of bees, especially by the extraordinary floods recorded in western of the province.

USA- MANUKA HONEY AND CALCIUM ALGINATE TO CURE WOUNDS
Honey reduces pain and odor in wounds. It has strong antibacterial properties, says Karen Zulkowski, MSU associate professor of nursing in Billings. But don't raid a beehive or spoon honey out of a jar and slather it onto a wound. Zulkowski and student Jayme Day went to Billings Health and Rehabilitation to test a dressing that uses Manuka honey in calcium alginate. The honey had been sterilized. The calcium alginate retained moisture so the dressing wouldn't stick to the wound, but helped remove dead tissue. Finding the dressing effective, Day presented her results this spring at MSU's Student Research Celebration.
