James tested the effects of ozone on two pesticides, called coumophos and tau-fluvalinate, both widely used by beekeepers to control varroa mites, a major enemy of honey bees. The application of 500 parts per million of ozone in a chamber with a temperature of around 93 degrees Fahrenheit ( 33ºc) for 10 to 15 hours degraded low concentrations of both pesticides, but it took 20 hours to decompose the highest concentrations of tau-fluvalinate.
