UGANDA- BLACK ANTS A THREAT TO BEE POPULATION, HONEY INDUSTRY
A common type of black ants has been singled out as the most devastating pest to bees in the country. The insects commonly called munyeera in Luganda, nginingini in Luo, attack beehives, suck out the honey and kill the bee pupae and eggs. They are too small to be counter-attacked by beehive guards. They make the bees flee the hives. Dr Robert Kajobe, a bee researcher at the National Livestock Resources Research Institute ( Na LIRRI) said the ants can reduce honey yields by about 70% on a hive.

USA- HONEY IMPORTS FEBRUARY 2008
Total imports were 8,367 tons (+ 22.68%) and 15.29 million dollars (+ 47.51%). The average price per ton was U.S. $ 1,828 (+ 20.24%). In the year were imported 13,431 tons (- 15.1%). All percentage values compared with the same period of the last year.

INDIA- HIGH RAINS REDUCED THE HONEY YIELDS
Unseasonal rains, seen as a sign of climate change, have sharply brought down the yield of wild honey in Kerala's Wayanad regions this year, depriving the hard-pressed tribals of their supplementary income. Torrential rains and strong winds have caused mass-dropping of flowers in deep forests, forcing the bees to move in drones to greener pastures to nest and extract nectar. While a total of 15,000 kg of wild honey was collected in the summer last year, the yield was estimated to be as low as 1500 kg this season

UNITED KINGDOM- THE CATHEDRAL BEEHIVE IN THE SHAPE OF A CROSS
Buzzing merrily on their way from A to B, the swarm decided to take a breather on a fence post. And for some mysterious reason the thousands of bees formed themselves into the shape of a crucifix - outside Wells Cathedral in Somerset. The unusual sight was captured on camera by 25-year-old Rob Handy, who himself keeps bees at his home in the nearby village of East Harptree.
