MEXICO- LOW HONEY YIELDS PER BEEHIVE IN DURANGO DUE TO THE DROUGHT
The first part of the year represents for Durango production per hive of just five kilos of honey, mainly due to the few rains of the season. While in his best season, production is multiplied to reach oscillate between 20 and 25 kilos, because rainfall and generate more fruits and flowers for the bee. Pedro Llanas Rosales, head of the agenda of the African bee, puts Durango places between 21 and 24 domestically produced, with nearly ten thousand hives belonging to 100 beekeepers.

USA- INVESTIGATION ABOUT SUBLETHAL DOSIS OF PESTICIDES IN BEES
Bee experts who measure bee health have seen declines in the honeybee population for the past couple of decades but now are grappling with a more recent mystery called colony collapse disorder, where bees leave the hive and never return. Experts think there could be a connection between the pesticides beekeepers use to control parasitic mites that attack honeybees and the colony collapse disorder. 'We're looking into various aspects that may be a major problem for bees,' said Mike Hood, Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service bee specialist and professor of entomology. 'I'm involved in a research project here looking at the sublethal doses of pesticide. And we're looking at the other effects of use of pesticides by man which can affect our honeybees.'

CANADA- LESS BEES DISSAPEREANCE IN NEW BRUNSWICK ISLAND
Honey bee scientists and hive owners say very preliminary indications so far this year suggest the problem of New Brunswick's disappearing bees still exists but is less dramatic so far this spring. Last year, approximately 65 per cent of the province's honey bees vanished or died, a mysterious phenomenon that is sweeping North America, and is beginning to show up in Europe according to some reports. Apiarists in the province cited a loss of about $1 million in bees and income last year.

MEXICO- EXTENDS THE DEADLINE FOR THE INSCRIPTION IN A HELPHS PLAN
The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) extended until May 30 the deadline for ranchers enroll in the 'Agenda for sustainable livestock production and livestock management and apiculture '-prog-and receive support from between 75 and 375 pesos, or 60 to 300 pesos, respectively, according to the stratum of the producer, belly of cattle, goats and sheep produced, or beehives, where appropriate.

ARGENTINA- CALL FOR SPECIALISTS FOR THE APICULTURAL NATIONAL PLAN
The Executive Committee of the Apicultural National Strategic Plan is conducting an open call to sector specialists, to select three that they can pursue concerning actions planned in three of the four pillars set in the Plan: Production, Marketing and Value Added. The deadline is May 29, while the next will take place on June 2, together with representatives of producers, the selection of specialists.

SPAIN- HELPHS TO IMPROVE THE HONEY PRODUCTION AND MARKETING CONDITIONS IN CASTILLA_LA MANCHA
The Ministry of Agriculture has convened aid to improve conditions for production and marketing of honey in Castilla-La Mancha for 2008, referred to within the Apicultural National Plan. Through this aid is eligible technical assistance (training, production of publications, etc..), the fight against varroa, the rationalization of transhumance and measures to support the restocking of hives. In the year 2007 benefited from this aid 145 individual beekeepers and 9 associations, surpassing the total amount paid 630,000 euros.
