AUSTRALIA- URGED TO BREED VARROA-RESISTENT BEES
National beekeepers are being urged to start breeding varroa mite resistant bees before the mite enters in the country. An American pollination specialist, Randy Oliver, says that Australia must act now in order to prevent the mite from wiping out our pollination industry.

BRAZIL- APICULTURAL MEETING IN BAHÍA

ARGENTINA- RECOMMENDS TO FEED BEES, TAKING IN CONSIDERATION THE HIGH TEMPERATURES IN WINTER SEASON
Given the current situation of high temperatures, and forecast that it will continue for several more days this summer time, the Provincial Apicultural program recommends feeding bees to reach the spring with strong hives. 'Let us remember that we will never have good honey production if the hive is weak,' said the coordinator of Promiel, Graciela Hedman.

A vicar is leading efforts in Merseyside to ensure Country?s bee population does not die out. Reverend Trevor Latham, of St Mary?s Church, Walton, held an open day ? Bee Happy ? on Saturday, attended by about 20 people, to show would-be bee keepers the art of apiculture.

CHILE- INVESTMENTS IN APICULTURAL PROYECTS
Chile exported in 2007 totaling US$ 12.7 million in bee products, an increase of 5.7% over the previous year. A growing industry in which FIA has invested some U.S. $ 2 million in the period 1997-2007, to develop 53 projects in the beekeeping sector. The initiatives have sought to increase the competitiveness of this industry, whose exports go to Germany, USA and UK.

SPAIN- IN GUADALAJARA WILL BE THE HEADQUARTER FOR THE IBEROLATINAMERICAN APICULTURAL FEDERATION
The Federation will be composed initially of seven countries: Argentina, Cuba, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain and Venezuela, who soon will join Mexico and Uruguay. The agency will be headquartered in the offices of the Fair Foundation Apícola, and will be chaired by the manager of this, Jose Luis Herguedas.

USA- HONEY A HIDDEN SKIN HEALER
When applied to the skin, honey may help prevent and treat skin diseases caused by bacteria, according to a new study published in Clinical Infectious Diseases. As the number of antibiotic-resistant infections increases, alternative solutions are needed for infections. Some research has already demonstrated that honey may help with wound healing. In the new study, Revamil, a medical-grade honey, was effective in killing or reducing many types of bacteria on the skin of healthy volunteers, including bacteria that are susceptible to or resistant to antibiotics.
