BRAZIL- MUNICIPALITY ADOPTED THE BEE AS IT´S SYMBOL
The city of Balneário Pinhal, in the tourist centre, strategically adopted the figure of the bee as its symbol. The project developed since 1998 by the Office of Tourism promotes the use of drawings and totems in the form of bee, both in public and private spaces. Currently, can be found in public telephones, signs and small statues with the image of bees, signalling for example, the location of the House of Councillors, municipal and mail 24hs, among other public buildings.

USA- THE GOVERMENT IS PROVIDING 4 MILLON DOLLARS TO STUDY THE COLONY COLAPSE DISORDER
USDA's Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service is providing a four-year grant to the University of Georgia for the Protection of Managed Bees Coordinated Agricultural Project. Dr. Keith Delaplane says the decline in bee numbers is worsening and the grant will be used in several ways.

ISLE OF MAN- NEW LAWS FOR THE APICULTURAL SECTOR
At the request of bee-keepers the Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry drafted new laws, which were approved by Tynwald this week. It means the Island will be able to apply for additional health guarantees for its bee population by demonstrating the high health status to the European Union. In order to achieve this DAFF needs to clearly demonstrate that it has appropriate knowledge of and controls over bee diseases and pests in the Island, which will be done using the powers contained within the Bees Act 1989. Under the new order bee-keepers will be required to register the extent of their bee-keeping, keep appropriate records of bee-keeping activities including movement of hives and equipment, notify the presence or suspicion of the diseases American foul brood and European foul brood, notify the presence or suspicion of the pests.

ARGENTINA- STARTS THE PLAN AGAINST VARROA IN CORRIENTES PROVINCE

SPAIN- A BEEKEEPER RECEIVED A COMPENSATION DUE TO A BEAR ATTACKED HIS BEEHIVES
A producer of honey from the town of Leon Villablino receive a compensation of 12,000 euros from the Castilla y Leon, after the Consultative Council has accepted the claims filed for damage caused by a bear in their hives on 24 occasions.

MEXICO- TABASCO DIDN´T BE ABLE TO RECOVER THE PRODUTION LEVEL HAD BEFORE OF THE ARRIVAL OF THE AFRICANIZED BESS
In 20 years honey production in Tabasco, unable to recover the average level reached before the arrival of the plague of African bees. This was revealed by the data provided by Jose Torres Ordonel Bocanegra, coordinator of the programme for control of the African bee at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA).

BRAZIL- HONEY EXPORTS INCREASES 19% IN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS OF THE YEAR
Exports of honey is still upwards. In June, the country reached a value of 4.29 million dollars, the largest of the past four years. This amount also represents a growth of 3.3% compared with the results in May. Compared with June of last year, the performance of exports of honey is more positive, with increases of 129 to 95% in value and 41.57% by weight. However, export quantities (1.66 thousand tons) in June there was a slight decrease of 1.2% compared with the previous month. In contrast, the average price of exported honey ($ 2.58 / kg) was record and has accumulated in successive years. The balance of exports honey in the first half of the year also remains favourable. From January to June this year, revenue from exports reached US$18.29 million, an increase of 70.11% compared with the first half of 2007. Moreover, there was the sale of 8.18 thousand tons, up 19.05% in the period.

USA- HONEY IMPORTS APRIL 2008
Total imports were 9,843 tons (+13.98%) and 31.29 Million dollars (+ 61.40%). The average price per ton was US$ 2232 (+ 42.43%). In the accrued year were imported 32,292 tons (-10.67%). All values percentage over the same period last year.
