AUSTRALIA- PROTECTING BEES
Queensland's beekeepers and the community are battling to protect the state's billion-dollar bee industry from an exotic threat. The chair of the Primary Industries, Fisheries and Rural and Regional Queensland Ministerial Legislative Committee, Wayne Wendt MP, praised the industry and the public for their efforts since an outbreak of Asian honey bees was first detected in Cairns two years ago. At the Queensland Beekeepers' Association's (QBA) 105th Annual General Meeting and Conference in Cairns, Mr Wendt, Member for Ipswich West, said the Asian honey bee posed a serious threat to the State's wax and honey industry.

USA- BEEKEEPING COURSE IN LA FLORIDA
The Lee County Extension, in collaboration with the Beekeepers Association of Southwest Florida offers an introductory beekeeping class this summer. Classes begin on Friday July 31. Other class dates are Aug. 7, 14, 21, 2009 Space is limited to 30 students.

USA- THE CULTURE OF BEES PRESENTATION
Learn about "The Culture of Bees" on July 18 at 7 p.m. at the Canyon Community Center, 126 Lion Blvd., Springdale. The presentation is free. Archaeologists have found amphorae full of crystallized honey on the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. Once it was heated, and re-liquefied, a few lucky souls were able to taste nectar thousands of years old. The relationship between humans and the honey bee is long standing. Emblems of the honey bee and beekeeping adorn the Vatican and Utah roadsides. Our understanding of that relationship, and our understanding of the honey bee, is continually evolving.

CHILE- GOVERNMENT AGENCY SUPPORT BEEKEEPERS IN THE V REGION
More than 10 million pesos (U.S. $ 18.200) approved the Area Agency of San Antonio through the Program for Development Investment PDI-to strengthen and support the work done by small farmers engaged in this field. Six mainly dedicated to producing area of the honey of the province of San Antonio, were benefited by the Development Investment Program - PDI, through Bono Productivo Prodesal delivered by INDAP and these users will improve and further enhance their ventures.

ARGENTINA- POSTPONED THE MALABRIGO APICULTURAL DAY, IN SANTA FE PROVINCE
The eighteenth edition of the Apicultural day organized by the Beekeepers Association of the city was postponed due to Influenza A. According to the organizers it was carried out on a date to be confirmed since it must coordinate with exhibitors and speakers, but will be implemented.

BRAZIL- PASSED AWAY PROFESSOR ELOI PUTTKAMER
With great sorrow the Directors of the Brazilian Apiculture Confederation- CBA announced the death of Professor Puttkamer Eloi, happened today (02-07-09) in the city of Florianópolis-SC. Prof. Eloi was the President of the Federation of Beekeepers' Associations of Santa Catarina-FAASC for many years, and joined the Board of the CBA.

UNITED KINGDOM- WELSH ASSEMBLY PLEDGES TO HELP PROTECT HONEY BEES
